Palm Springs Vacation

Palm Springs Vacation - Sat, June 28th to Fri, July 4th

Just the four of us went to Palm Springs this week. On the drive out, we stopped at the famous Dinosaur attraction. The kids really liked it and wanted to climb up the dinosaur, so we did. They thought it was so cool.

We used our timeshare and stayed at the Lawrence Welk Desert Oasis. It was very hot there, temperatures ranging from 110 - 114 whew! We were either in the pool or inside. The pool water was even warm, so it was nice, but not as refreshing as you had hoped when jumping in the water. The kids just LOVED being in the pool all day. And, the adults (mom & dad) enjoyed it too!

Kylee got sick on Tuesday with a fever and stomach ache, so we spent the day inside the room. Scott and I traded off taking Shane to the pool. It was a bummer, no fun being sick on vacation. But, at least it only lasted for one day.

On Thursday, we were able to go to Knott's Soak City - boy was it hot. You can't even walk around without your flip flops or your feet will burn like crazy. Scott found this out the hard way. Since we were on vacation, we splurged and got a cabana with misters, our own server and lots of ice cold water- it made the day much more enjoyable. Good thing, because all of the shaded spots were taken, and we would not have lasted as long without the cabana. The kids loved the wave pool, and it was very refreshing in there. The slides were a lot of fun too - just so hot waiting in line, so we did not do those a whole lot. Kylee & Mom did try the funnel ride (the kids called it the toilet bowl), since Shane was not tall enough - it was crazy, but a lot of fun.

We came home on the 4th of July after a fun filled week of exhaustion by the sun and heat. It took more of a toll on us than we realized. We wanted to spend some time with friends on the 4th, but ended up just hanging out at our house watching our neighborhood fireworks. It was all good though. Hope you all had a Happy 4th of July!

Tadpoles to Frogs

Remember those tadpoles that Kylee caught on our Memorial weekend camping trip? Well, she has been diligently taking care of them, and she has nurtured them to grow into frogs!!! Yes, they actually made it to transform into frogs. See the transformation below - from tadpoles, to growing back legs, to growing front legs, to losing the tail and becoming a frog!

Puppy Sitting

Remember the puppies that were born at our house? Well, they are 10 weeks old now and we were able to dogsit for the weekend. "Fudge" is below, he has grown quite a bit, but still small. We had a lot of fun with him at our house - too cute!

Rancho Day

Kylee's school has a Pioneer / Rancho Day. The 4th graders are the Pioneers who walk with covered wagons, get water balloons thrown at them (by the 2nd grade Indians), and finally end up in California (at the local park) where the 3rd grader Ranchos are there to greet them. The Ranchos perform a few Mexican hat dances for them and then they are off to have a "Fiesta" lunch in the park, along with pinata's and everything! Kylee really enjoyed performing the dances and had a fun time!

Disneyland with Cousin Kim

Jen's cousin Kim and two younger ones Loren & Jacob came to California for a visit from Wyoming. They live on a 40 acre lot and have lots of animals, including 6 horses, goats and pigs. Kylee loved to hear all about the animals and hopes to go and visit one day (sooner would be better for her). Loren is 6 and helps take care of all the animals, rides in shows, and does the 4H thing. Jacob is 2 and loves TRACTORS! All you need to say is tractor to get him to look at you for a picture. He even knows the difference between an elk and a deer - Scott was very impressed!

Well, while they were visiting with her brother (my cousin Jim), they were able to spend a day with us and we went to....Disneyland, of course! It was so much fun, and a very long day. Boy was I exhausted after a full day at D - I usually only stay for a few hours when we go. Loren absolutely loved the roller coasters, and it was her first time at an amusement park so it was fun to see her so excited. Kylee really enjoyed meeting and playing with her cousins. Shane stayed home with dad, since he does not like Disneyland so much. But, at least we were able to spend a little time with the boys at the house.

Girl Scout Bridging

Kylee had her end of the year Girl Scout Party, along with a bridging ceremony from Brownies to Juniors. As you can tell from the pictures, it is a very casual group which we all love. She has had so much fun with this troop - and has been with them since Kindergarden. She does have one last event this summer - Girl Scout Camp! It will be a lot of fun and the last event for this troop of girls. Thanks to Jill & Shannon for being such awesome troop leaders all these years!!
