Troutstock 2008 ~ Mammoth

August 28 - 31st ~ June Lake

Scott & Shane went to Troutstock 2008 in June Lake (near Mammoth) with a friend from the fire department Joe & Ty - trying to catch the million dollar fish. They stock the lake with tagged fish, and the guys tried to catch one of them. The were not successful in getting a tagged fish, but they did catch plenty of trout. Shane caught the first catch of the trip and was pretty excited about it. He called mom that night and told me, but he also told me that dad caught 2 "small" fish. It was funny. Shane also took his camera and got a few pictures.

KidZone University

This week, Parkcrest (our church) had their version of Vacation Bible School. We met every night for lots of fun activities. The kids got to choose an "elective" to attend, they had recess activities, and just a week full of fun. The theme was KidZone University, so they used the High School Musical theme throughout the week.

Kylee chose "Musical" as her elective, along with her friend Savina that she brought for the week. They had a blast learning the song and dance to "We're All in This Together" from High School Musical. On Friday night, they got to perform for family and friends at a little show.

Jen was able to help teach one of the electives - Cheerleading! Boy, was that interesting. I found out very quickly how old I am now. They have changed names of different jumps, stunts, etc. and I am just out of the whole cheerleading loop now - it has been over 15 years - WOW!! But, it turned out to be a lot of fun - very tiring week, but fun. My niece Emily chose this elective too. Thanks Lacey for encouraging me all summer to do this.

So, we had a very fun filled week (this along with soccer practices, Dr appointment, Islands dinner fundraiser for soccer, my sister's birthday, an extra work day for Jen for an all company meeting, getting ready for a garage sale, and getting the boys ready for a little trip). I was exhausted by Friday night - then we did a garage sale on Sat morning, so there was not much of a break for us until Saturday night. Whew, what a week!

Kylee goes to Girl Scout Camp

Kylee went to Camp Sherman today with her Girl Scout troop. They were at camp from Friday 8/15 through Monday 8/18. Kylee was not wanting to go, as she had already been to church camp for 6 nights earlier in the summer and she did not want to leave mom again. She had a hard time leaving, but was fine once she got to camp.

They got to do a lot of fun activities including hiking, rock climbing (Ky just watched others do this), lake fun, singing, meeting new friends, learning new songs, and even a short horse back trail ride. Kylee loves horses - so this made the trip extra special. We did not know for sure that they would be able to ride the horses, or if there would even be any horses.

She came home on Monday with so many stories to tell and she had a wonderfu time!! I will post some pictures later after I get them from the moms who were able to go to camp.

Tide Pools

Today we went to the tide pools at Crystal Cove in Newport Beach with our friends the Roah's - Melanie and kids Jackson, Ty and Brooklyn. First, we hung out at the beach for a while. The kids played in the water and tried to find some sea life on a few big rocks in the water. Then, we walked up the beach to the tide pools. The kids climbed all over the rocks and saw crabs, hermit crabs, small fish and more. It was a really fun time for everyone, and us moms were glad that we were able to find the right spot and see some cool stuff! The only bad part was....the sand. Funny how kids can have so much fun at the beach, but when its over, the sand can be such a bad thing.

Soccer Clinic

Kylee and Shane participated in a soccer clinic this week, put on by Simple Soccer. They are gearing up for the Fall Soccer Season! Kylee will be playing on the "Supreme Green" U10 team, and Shane will be playing on the "Lightning" U8 team. Kylee has taken the past 2 years off of soccer, so this clinic was really good for her. They are both excited for soccer!
