R Ranch Vacation

July 25 - July 29
We went to R Ranch in the Sequoia's with Scott's family. It is up the Kern River about 40 minutes past Lake Isabella. We really enjoyed the trip this year with lots of variety to our vacation.

On Saturday, we went to Lake Isabella and enjoyed time on the lake in the boat, jet skis, floating on the rafts and the kids rafting behind the boat. That night we went to Johnny McNally's for our traditional steak dinner while we are visiting the ranch. After dinner, we always go on the bridge above the Kern to take pictures - this is the spot where Scott proposed to me 13 years ago.

Sunday, we had another day at the Lake. It was pretty windy though, so we did not stay all day. We headed back to the Ranch and made a quick stop to see the horses at the ranch. Kylee absolutely loves the horses - we did not get to ride, but she was thrilled to feed them carrots and pet them (Shane was asleep in the truck during this). The boys all got a chance to go fishing, Kylee & I went swimming, and Shane stayed at the cabin with Mimi & Aunt Crystal playing solitare - we all had a good time playing games. That evening, Papa brought out the snow cone machine and made us all some yummy snow cones.

Monday, we went on a walk through the Trail of 100 Giants. After all these years of going up to the Ranch, I have never done this. It was pretty cool to see all of the big redwood trees. The kids (and Scott) had fun climbing up on some of them. Later that afternoon, the kids and I went to the pool again - and the boys went fishing again. We also stopped by to see the horses one last time (Shane was awake this time). There was even a "Shane" horse that looked like him with the blond hair. The evening was nice and relaxing.

Then, we headed back home on Tuesday (and missed the Chino earthquake, as we were driving through Bakersfield at the time). Before we left the cabin, we had some deer come to visit and have a little carrot breakfast. There were 3 different deer that the kids got to hand feed, two babies and their mama, it was amazing to see them eat right out of the kids hands (see video below). On the way down the mountain, Scott made one last stop along the river to fish - and I got a chance to get some more pictures in. It was a really nice vacation.

Enjoy the pictures below - sorry for so many, but I just wanted to share and include a little from all of our fun activities.
